Caring for your flexible dentures: For a permanently radiant smile
With your flexible dentures, you can enjoy a beautiful smile and a confident laugh. To maintain this, careful maintenance is essential. Flexible dentures offer comfort and a natural appearance, but just like natural teeth, they require daily attention. With proper care, your dentures will remain not only beautiful, but also functional and long-lasting.

Why is cleaning important?
Although flexible dentures are not susceptible to plaque or cavities, food particles, coffee, tea, wine, or nicotine can cause discoloration or unpleasant odors. Inadequate cleaning can even lead to irritated gums. Therefore, rinse your dentures under warm, running water after every meal to remove residue and keep your mouth fresh.

How do you clean your flexible dentures?
Use a soft denture brush and lukewarm water to gently clean your dentures daily. For a more thorough cleaning, you can use a special denture cleaner, such as a mild soap or a cleaner suitable for flexible materials (available at drugstores or online). Avoid harsh products like toothpaste, bleach, or abrasives; these can damage or roughen the smooth surface of your dentures, making it easier for bacteria to accumulate.

Important: Do not use alcohol-based or conventional denture cleaners, as these can damage the material. Always choose a cleaning agent suitable for flexible dentures.

Before each use: Briefly immerse in warm water
Place your prosthesis in warm water (around 50°C) for at least 20 seconds before each use. This prevents breakage and ensures a comfortable fit.

Oral and gum care
Your mouth deserves attention too. Brush your gums and jaw daily with a soft toothbrush to promote blood circulation and keep your gums healthy. This will ensure that your flexible dentures fit more comfortably and securely.

Taking them out at night: A good idea
It is advisable to remove your flexible dentures at night. This allows your jaw to rest and promotes healthy blood circulation in the gums. It also slows down the natural breakdown of your jawbone, helping your dentures fit well for longer.

Storing your prosthesis
When you are not wearing your dentures, store them in a glass of clean water. Change the water daily and do not use hot water, as this could change the shape of your flexible dentures. Always rinse the dentures thoroughly before inserting them again.

Protect your prosthesis
Avoid biting down on hard objects such as ice cubes, seeds, hard candies, or popcorn kernels. This can damage your flexible prosthesis. If eating with the prosthesis causes discomfort, temporarily remove it for greater comfort.

Regular checks for a perfect fit
Even a flexible denture can become less secure over time as your jaw – especially your lower jaw – gradually shrinks. Therefore, have your dentures checked regularly. This prevents problems such as irritation or loosening and extends the lifespan of your dentures. With this care, your flexible dentures will remain a reliable companion for your smile.
